I’ve been trying a new sewing placement...

I always feel insecure about securing the end of my wefts for some reason so I tried starting a fresh thread on each side and I sew each side to the middle of the weft and then tie the two ends together. Does that make sense? Any seasoned weavers have any options on why this might not be a good idea? I just feel like I can tack down each weft end we’re when I start there. This feels comfortable for me but I want to make sure I’m not missing something. Would love feedback!

I don’t see anything wrong with it! For me, I’m very dominant with my right hand so I have to start from the right side of the head...it throws off my rhythm if I start on the other side!🤷🏼‍♀️

I had issues with my corners too, and I have found when I start the first corner going towards the hairline then back stitching over the top 2-3 times THEN going behind the bead I have had good results and it doesn’t add any bulk just security. Then when I end my stitching with the other side I have skipped the last bead stitching towards the hairline in the opposite side... then back stitching 2-3 times THEN go behind the last bead adding the finishing knots. I feel like this would be quicker for you so you don’t have to stitch going both directions and meeting in the middle. I like to start on the left side of the head and go towards the right and if I start on the right I am much slower.

Where do you actually tie your first knot? In front of the first bead or behind it?

You should always place the first knot behind (meaning to the inside of) the first bead.

I am going to try to see if it slows me down. I have both needles strung up before I begin and it just feels more efficient time me. I’m glad to know others have experimented with what feels right for them.

Start on the ends and meet in the middle!
